Spartans in Contention Heading Into Final Round at Saint Leo Invitational
SAINT LEO, Fla. - After two rounds of golf, The University of Tampa is within seven shots of host Saint Leo heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Spartans remained consistent through the first two rounds on Monday, shooting a 299 in both rounds for a 598. UT is tied for second with Northwood as Saint Leo is first with a 591. The five team field is rounded out by Florida Tech (603) and Warner Southern (660).
Michael Vaughan is in second place as he was tied for the lead after shooting a 73 in the first round and a 70 in the day's final round. At 143, Vaughan is one of two players under par as his -1 trails Matt Cornuet (Saint Leo) by two strokes.
The Tampa lineup was led by Ryan Barnett, who shot a 147 and stands at +3 in a sixth place tie. Kris Shane is also in the top 10 as his 148 was good for eighth place. The Tampa lineup was rounded out by Nicolas Jutigny (150, T-11th), Tom Rourke (153, T-13th) and Guy Antonacci (161, 25th).
Freshman Kyle Roy, who is in a 16th place tie with a 154, joined Vaughan as the two Spartans competing as individuals.
The final round of the Saint Leo Invitational will begin Tuesday morning at Lake Jovita.
