Young Spartans Finish Third at Saint Leo Invitational
SAINT LEO, Fla. - A lineup including three freshmen and a sophomore helped The University of Tampa golf team to a third place finish at the Saint Leo Invitational. Tampa finished with a 904 as it came in behind Saint Leo (895) and Northwood (899) in the five team field.
Michael Vaughan turned in an excellent individual performance, finishing sixth overall with a 222 (+6). Playing in his second tournament as a Spartan, Vaughan was in second place heading into the final round as his second round score of 70 marked his top round.
Freshman Kris Shane finished in a seventh place tie with a 223 (+7). Nicolas Jutigny and Ryan Barnett each tied for 10th place with a pair of 225 scores (+9). Barnett turned in the best round among all Spartans as his 69 in round two also marked a low round score among all participants.
Other UT golfers who played were Kyle Roy, who tied for 15th place with a 233 (+17), Tom Rourke (18th, 235) and Guy Antonacci (22nd, 239).
Tampa returns to action on Monday as it travels to Orlando for the Rollins Invitational. The event will mark the final tourney for the Fall season.
