Nicolas Jutigny Wins Saint Leo Invitational
SAINT LEO, Fla. - Nicolas Jutigny became the first University of Tampa golfer since Matt Freeman in 2002 to win a tournament as he placed first overall at the 2009 Saint Leo Invitational. His performance helped the Spartans to an overall finish of third among 10 teams at Lake Jovita Golf Club.
After leading heading into the final round, Jutigny finished the event with a third round score of 74. He opened the tourney with his top round of 70, then finished day one with a 73. His final score of 217 was good for a three stroke victory and a +1 overall. Jutigny's performance also placed him among five participants selected to the all-tournament team.
Saint Leo's J.P. Albuquerque (220) was second while Brevard Community College's Spencer Baldwin, Tyler Foxx and SLU's Mark McGuire tied for third with 224.
Tournament host Saint Leo finished first in team competition with a 901, or +37. Brevard CC (910) edged Tampa (921) as Webber International (925) and Johnson & Wales (938) rounded out the top five. Warner, Webber International (B), Eckerd, Saint Leo (B) and Ave Maria also competed.
The Spartans finished the tournament with a 310, which was identical to its first round score. UT's top round was a 301 in round two.
Kyle Roy joined Jutigny in the top-10 as his score of 229 was good for 10th place in the 52 player field. Kris Shane was 14th with a 232 while Eric Snow tied for 25th with a 238.
Charlie Green and Scott Serwa finished at 248 and a 39th place tie. Josh Detmer also represented the Spartans with a 42nd place finish after shooting a 249. Jutigny's first round score of 70 was the top round of any Spartan player for the event.
Tampa will conclude fall play on Monday as it travels to Orlando to play in the Rollins Invitational.
