Kris Shane Enjoying Summer Success On The Links
TAMPA, Fla. - University of Tampa golfer Kris Shane has centered his summer around a busy golf schedule, working to qualify for several events that feature top competition. Among the goals for the junior from Ruskin, Fla., are qualifying for the U.S. Open, Florida Open and Florida Amateur.
Shane competed in the U.S. Open Qualifier on May 20, shooting a 69 at Kensington Golf and Country Club. With a top-five showing, Shane advanced to the next stage on June 7.
He will play a pair of rounds at McArthur Country Club on Jupiter Island with a spot at the U.S. Open on the line. Qualifiers will advance to the 2010 U.S. Open, which will be played in Pasadena, Calif.
Shane's success did not stop at the qualifier as he qualified for the Florida Amateur with a 67 to win the event. While playing at Southern Dunes Country Club, his final score included five birdies as the remainder of holes resulted in pars.
He advances to compete in the Florida Amateur from June 24-27 at Bay Hill Country Club in Orlando, Fla. Shane also plans to play in the Florida Open and U.S. Amateur in the summer.
