
Tampa Men’s Golf Concludes First Competition of 2011-12 Season
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team played to an 11th place finish in its first meet of the 2011-12 season. The Jay Jennison Memorial was hosted by Flagler College as the three-round tournament was played at The Palencia Club.
The Spartans shot a 926 (+62), good for a tie with Embry-Riddle, for the 11th-place spot. After opening play with a 313 in Monday's round, head coach Rick Christie's team shot respective scores of 307 and 306 on Tuesday.
Wilmington (Del.) was the team champion, clubbing an 881 (+17). Eckerd (890), Wingate (890), Armstrong Atlantic (891) and Valdosta State (891) also finished in the top five. Fellow Sunshine State Conference schools Rollins (898), Florida Tech (912) and St. Leo (916) also competed.
Tampa was led by Jared Pane, who shot a 226 (+10) to finish 19th overall. The senior opened play with a first-round score of 74, and followed with a 76 in each of the ensuing rounds.
Steve Embree (231), Kevin Genuardi (234), Mark Cleary (237), Taylor Noel (245) and Matt Petrosian (254) all golfed for the Spartans. Genuardi's third-round 74 matches Pane's first-round score for the top round by a UT individual.
The Spartans return to the links on Oct. 10-11 at the North Alabama Invitational in Destin, Fla.
