
Taylor Noel Guides Tampa to Excellent Showing at Spring Opener
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team started its spring season with a second-place finish at Brevard College's Titan Winter Invitational at Sun Tree Country Club.
Fellow Sunshine State Conference opponent Florida Tech claimed the team title with a three-round score of 880 (+16). The Spartans came in at 882 (+18) as they were joined in second-place by Central Alabama Community College. Host Brevard placed fourth overall.
Tampa led after Monday's rounds after shooting respective scores of 296 and 285 on the first day. The Spartans concluded play with a 301 on the final day of competition. The second-round 285 for UT also marked the top round among the 12 competing teams.
Senior Taylor Noel finished in a first-place tie with FIT's Justin Kalanquin. Noel had a total score of 213, or -3. His second-round 68 marked the top round by a participating golfer as his other rounds resulted in 73 and 72 shots.
Helder Alves finished in 10th place, shooting a 219 (+3). The senior had rounds of 75, 70, 74 for head coach Rick Christie's squad.
Also competing for the Spartans were Jason Steele (20th, 227), Myles Wharram (27, 229), Zach Schuster (45, 232), Bobby Ray (50, 234), Jerome Bostwick (67, 241) and Axl Ismail (78, 264).
