Fall Season Comes to End With a Second-Place Finish
LAKE WALES, Fla. - Playing in its final event of the fall season, the University of Tampa men's golf team was the runner-up at the Warner Invitational, which a three-round event hosted by Warner University at Lake Wales Country Club.
After shooting a 303 in Saturday's opening round, Tampa fired a 309 and 302 to close play at 914. Warner was the team champion with an 894 as Palm Beach Atlantic University also finished with a 935. Warner's Hikari Yamamoto was the individual medalist with a 213.
Sophomore Jason Steele enjoyed a solid performance, finishing fifth with a 224. He also had the top two rounds in the UT lineup with an opening round 73 and a 72 in the final time around.
The UT lineup also included Zach Schuster (11th, 228), Chris Clarke (18th, 233), Will Monnery (23rd, 235) and Myles Wharram (25th, 236).
Jonathan Singleton made it two Spartans in the top-10 as he fired a 225 to place seventh overall in the second career effort for the freshman. Bobby Ray (11th, 228) and Axl Ismail (39th, 260) also golfed for UT.
With the fall season complete, head coach Rick Christie and his team looks forward to a spring slate that includes four competitions, plus the Sunshine State Conference Championships against the nation's top NCAA Division II schools.
