Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Titan Winter Invitational
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team opened its spring season with a 13th-place finish at the Titan Winter Invitational. The three-round event was played at Sun Tree Country Club.
The Spartans registered rounds of 316, 311 and 315 to finish at 942 (+78). Fellow Sunshine State Conference opponent Lynn University claimed the team title with an 859 (-5). The Fighting Knights finished play with a 285 in Tuesday's final round. Lynn's Ernesto Vitienes was the medalist with a 208 (-8).
Tampa's top performer was Jason Steele, who carded a 231 (+15). He finished strong with a 74, marking the top round for the Spartans to place 49th overall. Jonathan Singleton (236), Will Monnery (237), Chris Clarke (239), Bobby Ray (239) and Myles Wharram (252) also competed for the Spartans as Zach Schuster was forced to retire early.
UT returns to action on Feb. 9-10 at the Webber Invitational at Lake Wales Country Club.
