
Season Comes to a Close as UT Golfs at SSC Championships
Gray Barnes started thing out with a record opening round.
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's golf team recorded an eighth-place finish at the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Championships to conclude the season.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
UT Finish: 8th, 893 strokes, +29 (293-307-293)
Team Champion: Barry, 850 strokes

TOP SPARTAN PERFORMERS:
• Jacques Celestino | 26th overall, 224
• Dan Syring | 30th overall, 225
• Eddie Doyle | 35th overall, 227
• Gray Barnes | 38th overall, 229
• Justin Elwell | 38th, 229
OTHER NOTABLES:
• Celestino led all UT golfers for the second time in the 2016-17 season. The other came at the Webber Start 2 Finish Invite where he finished first overall.
• Barnes shot a 68 in Sunday's opening round, marking the best rouynd by a Spartan at the SSC Tournament since 1991.
• In Tuesday's final round, Syring joined Barnes as the lone Spartans to register a sub-70 score as he carded a 69.
• Tampa did not register any individual competitors.
• Head coach Rick Christie looks to return four of his five from the lineup as Syring was the lone senior to golf at the championships.
• Barry's Kyle Brey was the medalist with a final score of 204.
• A total of 10 teams competed.
• Tampa finished 25 strokes ahead of Palm Beach Atlantic and 46 ahead of Eckerd.
