Mercier, Turba Lead Spartans to Fourth-Place Finish

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's golf team rode a pair of standout performances to a fourth-place finish at the Battle at the Shores, competing in the 16-team field.

• Alex Mercier | 10th overall, 216 (+3)
• Joonas Turba | 13th overall, 217 (+4)
• George Eubank Jr. | 19th overall, 218 (+5)
• Jonty Marshall | 48th overall, 225 (+12)
• Aadam Syed | 53rd overall, 226 (+13)

OTHER NOTABLES:

• Mercier led all Spartans for the first time this, season.
• Tampa led after round one.
• Eubank Jr., opened play with a 70, registering the top round for the Spartans.
• This was the first-ever top-10 finish for Mercier.
• UT head coach Gary Hilton did not register any individuals.
• A total of 16 teams competed.
• Barry had the top three finishers, led by A.J. Ewart's 208. Ewart is ranked as the No. 1 player in the nation.
• Joining UT and host/champion Barry from the Sunshine State Conference were Nova Southeastern (2), Lynn (3), Florida Southern (6), Palm Beach Atlantic (9), Embry-Riddle (10), Florida Tech (11), Saint Leo (12), Rollins (13) and Eckerd (16).
• Tampa is ranked No. 41 in the nation. The field included several nationally-ranked teams, including No. 1 Barry, No. 12 Nova Southeastern, No. 16 Florida Southern, No. 21 Saint Leo and No. 34 Flagler.
• Marshall is the lone UT golfer in the national rankings, coming in at No. 43.

Tampa travels to the 2022 SSC Championships on April 10-12. The event will take place at Grasslands Country Club in Lakeland, Fla.
