
Freshman Jonathan Garbely Shines in Tampa Men's Golf Opener
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team participated in the National Preview tournament held at the Orange County National - Crooked Cat golf course in Winter Garden, Florida to open its 2023-24 season. This challenging tournament took place on a par 72 course that spanned 7,287 yards and featured a total of nine collegiate teams and 52 players.
Team Standings
The Tampa Men's Golf Team secured a respectable fourth-place finish in the highly competitive tournament. They posted a total team score of 866, finishing just 2 strokes over par.
Notable Performances
- Tampa's Jonathan Garbely delivered an outstanding performance in his collegiate debut. The true freshman tied for the fourth position in the individual player standings with a total score of 213, just 3 strokes under par.
- Jonty Marshall also contributed significantly, finishing at even par and tying for the 11th position.
- Leonardo Bono of Tampa performed admirably, finishing at 3 strokes over par and tying for the 22nd spot.
- Alex Mercier of Tampa tied with Bono at 3 strokes over par and also secured the 24th position.
- Alejandro Quintero, playing as an individual for Tampa, finished at 10 strokes over par and tied for the 41st position.
