
Garrett Tighe Leads UT Men's Golf in Spring Opener
LAKELAND, Fla. - In the Matlock Collegiate Classic, the University of Tampa men's golf team finished in 6th place with a total score of 889. A total of 15 teams competed in the event, which was hosted by Florida Southern College.
Garrett Tighe led all Spartans as he tied for 15th place with a score of +5 over par. Tighe showed consistency in his game with rounds of 74, 71, and 76, totaling 221.
Leonardo Bono tied for 25th position, finishing at +9 over par. Bono had a promising start with rounds of 71 and 71 but faced challenges in the final round, carding an 83 for a total of 225.
Jonty Marshall tied for 30th place with a score of +10 over par. Marshall posted rounds of 74, 76, and 76, totaling 226.
Alex Mercier finished tied for 43rd at +13 over par, showcasing his fighting spirit throughout the tournament. Mercier had rounds of 81, 71, and 77, totaling 229.
Jonathan Garbely also tied for 43rd place with a score of +13 over par. Garbely's rounds of 75, 77, and 77 were good for a total of 229.
Alejandro Quintero, participating as an individual, tied for 63rd place with a score of +21 over par. Quintero faced challenges throughout the event, with rounds of 78, 78, and 81 totaled 237.
The Spartans return to play at the St. Leo Invitational, which is scheduled for February 19-20 at Lake Jovita Golf Course in Dade, City, Fla.
