Ross Dickerson Named Spartans Male Athlete of the Year
TAMPA, Fla - The University of Tampa has announced that a member of the men's lacrosse team, Ross Dickerson, has been named the 2020-21 recipient of the male Athlete of the Year award, presented annually to the top male and female athlete.
Dickerson, an entrepreneurship graduate student and three-time captain, is a two-time Sunshine State Conference First-Team selection. In 2020, he was named the Inside Lacrosse Division II Player of the Year and was a First-Team All-American. Dickerson also also holds the NCAA record for faceoff winning percentage.
Head coach Rory Whipple calls Dickerson the "vocal leader of our team. He's the hardest working player in our program."
He has been named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll twice and awarded SSC Specialist Player of the Week nine times in his career. Named the 2021 Pre-season Player of the Year, he is also a two-time Second-Team All-American and has the highest faceoff win percentage in NCAA history. As a senior he ranked third nationally in faceoff percentage and fifth in groundballs per game.
