Tampa Men's Lacrosse honored with 10 All SSC selections
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference has announced the selections for the 2021 All-Conference team. In total, 10 different Spartans earned a spot on all conference selections, while head coach Rory Whipple was named the conference coach of the year for the fourth time of his career. Tampa had seven members on the first team and three players named to the second team.
Ben French earned a spot on the first team, as the grad student led the Spartans in goals with 31. He would also lead the conference in goals per game with 3.44. Along with his 31 goals, he would also add 13 assists, 14 groundballs and five caused turnovers.
Jack Wood was also named to the first team as he led Tampa with 47 points. He finished the regular season with 24 goals and added 23 assists. He ranked second in the conference in total points and points per game. He would also finish with 14 groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Jake Mosher McGraw would also find himself on the first team as the senior finished the season with 13 goals. Along with the 13 goals, he would add five assists to finish the year with 18 points. Along with his offensive performance, he would pick up six groundballs and caused two turnovers.
Owen Matukas earned a spot on the first team as he had 12 groundballs on the year. He would also add three caused turnovers, two assists, and one goal.
Ross Dickerson was named to the first team after a strong performance all season in the faceoff circle. He finished the season with a 68.1 winning percentage, as he won 122 attempts. He would also finish second in the conference with 84 groundballs. He also had four goals and one assist.
Matthew Beddow earned a spot on the first team as he led Tampa with 17 caused turnovers. He finished the season with 22 groundballs while also tallying 3 assists.
Blake Ulmer earned a spot on the first team as he led the nation in goals allowed with 52. He also finished the season second in the nation with 6.71 goals-against average and .626 save percentage.
Luke McAnaney would also find himself on the second team as he finished the season with 9 goals and 10 assists. He also finished the season with 19 points which was good for third-best on Tampa.
Scott Phillips was named to the second team as he had 21 groundballs on the year. He would also finish the season with 14 caused turnovers, two goals, and two assists.
Sam Collingwood was named to the second team as he finished the season with 21 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers. He would also finish with 1 goal scored on the year.
Conference coaches select Whipple as the Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career. With Whipple's guidance, the Spartans program won its fifth SSC regular-season title, earned an NCAA national tournament bid, and reached the No. 1 ranking in national polls this season. The undefeated Spartans lead the league in scoring margin (9.6), goals per game (16.4), assists per game (9.78), shooting percentage (.328), save percentage (.627), and fewest turnovers per game (16.22).
Jack Wood, Matthew Beddow, and Blake Ulmer also earned a spot on the All-SSC Freshman Team.
