Tampa Set to Face Wingate at The Crown Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Tampa men's lacrosse team is set to play Wingate on Saturday, March 9.

The Matchup: No. 4 University of Tampa (4-1, 0-0 SSC) vs. No. 6 Wingate (6-1, 0-0 SAC)

Date/Time: Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

Location: American Legion Memorial Stadium. 1218-1238 Armory Dr, Charlotte, NC 28204

Series History: Tampa leads Wingate in the all-time series 3-0.

About the Spartans: Tampa has won two straight contests heading into this highly touted matchup. The Spartans have not conceded more than eight goals four times this season. Tampa sports a 4-1 overall record and ranks as the nation's fourth-best heading into the matchup. Canyon Birch leads the team in goals scored with 16 and has scored eight in the last two games while teammate Andrew Milani and Birch are tied for points (16). The Spartans lead the SSC in goals against average and goals scored per game. Tampa is 3-0 in the all-time series versus Wingate which bodes well for the the Spartans heading into this top-10 matchup at The Crown Classic.

About the Bulldogs: The Bulldogs are 4-1 having already faced three ranked opponents. Two of Wingates four wins have come against No. 6 Mercyhurst and No. 18 Maryville. The Bulldog's lone loss came in the season opener at Irwin Belk Stadium to No. 13 Florida Southern. Since the loss, Wingate has won four straight and has averaged just 7.25 goals against per game. The Bulldogs will look to knock off the Spartans for the first time in program history this weekend at The Crown Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina.
