Tampa Takes Down No. 15 Florida Southern

TAMPA, Fla. – Spartans take down the No. 15 Moccasins in an early-season non-conference matchup at Naimoli. 

How It Happened

• Ryan Kemp continued his hot start to the season as he got past a defender with a fake pass on his way to scoring his ninth goal of the year, and his first of the day to put the Spartans on top 1-0.
• Sunshine State Conference and USILA Goalkeeper of the Week, Connor Theriault also looked to build off of his commanding performance last year as he recorded a diving save to preserve the Spartan lead five minutes into the game.
• Gavin Bomstad had an impressive swim move around a defender to create separation and net his first goal of the season, and put the Spartans back ahead, 2-1 midway through the first.
• A pair of Jackson Bashaw goals in succession, followed by a Harry Boland goal in the final seven seconds of the quarter gave Tampa a commanding three-goal advantage.
• Desi Arrup had a huge defensive stop on an empty goal to preserve Tampa's 7-4 lead late in the first half.
• Zach Friend with a pair of goals in under a minute helped maintain the momentum for the Spartan offense to begin the second half of play.
• The Spartan defense would go on to shutout the Moccasins in the third quarter, going 4-0 in the third, on their way to their third victory of the season.

Spartans Performances

• Kemp and Bashaw each had hattricks and led all players in scoring, while the former added two assists.
• Goalkeeper, Connor Theriault recorded 13 saves.
• Sophomore defender, Gordy Gombold recorded four ground balls and four cause turnovers.
• The duo of Bomstad and Friend also each knocked in a pair.
• The offense tonight kept the Florida Southern defense busy as they had 40 shots.
