TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team set a new single-game school record as it notched a 16-0 victory over visiting Florida College. The Spartans are now 2-0-1 while the Falcons drop to 1-3.
UT eclipsed the previous school record of 11, which was set on Oct. 9, 1985. It marked just the third time in program history that Tampa scored 10-plus goals, and the first time since the 1996 season.
Andrej Gulan got the scoring started with a goal at 3:03 as Ryan Maxwell found him on the breakaway. Maxwell then added his first goal at 4:25. 55 seconds later, Lister Warren made it 3-0 on a goal that was assisted by Maxwell.
The next three goals came from UT's Pascal Milien, who notched the trio in just less than a 14-minute span. Lee Inglis and David Mitchell assisted the first two Milien goals.
Austin Alvarado played a part in the next three goals as he began by finding Warren at 26:16. Alvarado answered with UT's eighth and ninth goals as Karl Swan and Ryan Griffin each had an assist respectively.
Greg Sasser and Gavin Scott connected on the 10th and 11th goals of the half, as Sasser scored unassisted at 42:44. Scott beat the halftime buzzer with a goal from Sawn at 44:28.
In the second half, Alvarado completed the hat trick as he scored at 57:43. The unassisted goal came on a steal from an opposing defender. Tom Layrisse added three goals as Gulan also registered a goal to complete the scoring for the Spartans.
Milien, Alvarado and Layrisse also became the first Spartan trio to record a hat trick in one game. Alvarado had eight points, which ranks third in UT's single-game records.
Gulan and Warren each added a pair of goals apiece as Maxwell, Swan and Alvarado each had team honors with two assists.
In the game, UT outshot Florida College 41-0, including a 26-0 shots on goal advantage.
Tampa returns to action on Thursday as it meets Truman State University at the Lynn Tournament in Boca Raton. Game time is 4 p.m.
