No. 22 Tampa Turned Away By Rollins in Overtime Defeat
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The No. 22 University of Tampa (7-4-1) men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Rollins College (7-3-2) on Wednesday evening.
"The fans who watched this game tonight got a treat because both teams got after it," says head coach Adrian Bush. "It's a tough loss on the road but we must put this behind us and focus on Nova. I'm very proud of our team; their effort is there day in and day out."
Andrew Clare gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 19:56 mark. The sophomore defender found the back of Rollins' net on a loose ball off a rebound.
Rollins would not answer until the 65th minute when Brett Durrance evened the contest, forcing an extra period. At the 1:05 mark of overtime, Walker Hume scored off a rebound to give the Tars the victory.
Dominic Cutrofello and Tyler Blackwood each had three shots, with each of Cutrofello's on target. Rollins held a slight edge, 14-12, in shots, and 8-6 in shots on goal.
David Niepel finished with six saves for the Spartans in goal.
The Spartans will not return to action for another week as it will host Nova Southeastern University on Wednesday at Pepin Stadium. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Live stats and a webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
