MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa (4-3-2, 0-2 SSC) dropped a 3-2 overtime decision at Florida Tech (4-4-1, 1-2 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference contest at Rick Stottler Field.
Adin Kavara gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 46th minute after the game was scoreless at the break. Yona Lobulu would even the score as the Spartan scored off a Craig Laird corner kick. Tampa would take its first lead of the game just over seven minutes later as Kody Thomas tallied an unassisted score.
Kavara would draw even at two on a penalty kick in the 78th minute. The match would remain 2-2 following the end of regulation.
In overtime, Kavara would complete the hat trick while notching a game-winner at the 97:30 mark. The winning goal was assisted by Jack Willison.
Tampa, who played a man down for the final 30 minutes of the second half and overtime, was outshot 21-8 on the game. Florida Tech also held a 12-5 advantage on shots on goal. David Niepel enjoyed a solid performance as the senior keeper had nine saves.
Tampa will look to pick up its first SSC win on Saturday against defending national champion Lynn University. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., at Pepin Stadium. Live stats and a video broadcast will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
