The University of Tampa Spartans (2-1) and the Clayton State Lakers (2-1) played an overtime thriller at Pepin Stadium on Thursday night, with UT claiming a 1-0 victory.
In the the eighth minute of the overtime period, Keith Francisco crossed the ball to teammate Chris Campbell in the box, as he was able to put it past the keeper to give the Spartans the overtime 1-0 victory.
The Spartans and the Lakers played to a scoreless first half. The Spartans were able to outshoot the Lakers by a seven to six margin. UT also had three shots on goal against the Lakers in the first half, while limiting the opposition to two shots on goal.
Tampa also outshot Clayton State by a total of nine to six in the second half. Both keepers made four saves in the second half of competition.
Tampa goalkeeper Zak Downes earned his second shutout of his career, as he was able to make six saves on the night.
The Spartns finished the game with 18 total shots, while Clayton State had 13.
