Tampa Drops Midweek Contest To SLU
ST. LEO, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team dropped its contest against the Saint Leo University Lions Wednesday night by a final score of 4-1.
The Spartans fall to 6-5 and 2-2 in Sunshine State Conference play, while the Lions improve to 5-4 and 3-2 mark against conference foes.
The opening half action was mostly one sided with the Lions making the most of their play, netting two goals. The Lions jumped on the Spartans early with Maximilian Schulze scoring their first goal less than a minute into the first act. Six minutes later, Saint Leo's Pascal Derwaritsch put another one past the Tampa goalkeeper to extend their lead to 2-0.
Tampa and Saint Leo finished the first half tied with nine total shots, two of which were scored as goals, both for Saint Leo.
The second half action started off the same way as the first half had ended. The Lions' forward Schulze scored his 2nd goal of the match a little over 2 minutes into the second stanza, extending Saint Leo's lead to 3-0. At the 66th minute mark, Saint Leo Jorge Braham contributed to his team's offensive effort by scoring his first goal of the season and fourth goal of the game for the Lions, pushing their lead to 4-0.
Tampa scored it's lone goal in the 70th minute when Ramzi Toure got his head on a cross from Bryan Tissot and put it in the back of the net, for his first goal of the season.
Tampa returns to action on Saturday taking on Florida Tech at home in an SSC matchup. This matchup will be celebrated as Tampa's 2015 Senior Night and Homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., live stats and broadcast will be available for fans to follow the action.
