Second-Straight Juancho Fernandez Game-Winner Gives Spartans Shutout Victory

WINTER PARK Fla. – The No. 9 University of Tampa men's soccer team registered its fourth straight 1-0 shutout with a road win at Rollins College on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

FIRST HALF: The first 45 minutes remained scoreless as the respective defenses allowed limited opportunities. The Spartans would finish the half with six shots, compared to five for the Tars. Rollins registered a pair of shots on target as Tampa had just one.

SECOND HALF: The lone goal of the match came in the 58th minute when Juancho Fernandez found the back of the Rollins net on a ball that was assisted by Ornaldo Zeqiri. The score would go down as the game-winner as Spartan goalkeeper Adam Forster turned away three Rollins shots to preserve the shutout victory.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Forster totaled five saves as the graduate goalkeeper notched his ninth shutout of the season. That moves him into second in the school's record book for single-season shutouts, which is held by Tom Graham with 10.5 in 1982.

• Both teams tallied 13 shots in the game, as the Tars had five on target compared to two for the Spartans.

• Fernandez finished with a team-high six shots.

• Defenders Agustin Baroffio, Albert Morales and Cody Wells each played all 90 minutes, as did midfielder Nico Gamio.

• With one SSC game remaining, Tampa remains in the league lead at 8-1. Palm Beach Atlantic is 7-1 in conference play as the Sailfish have a pair of games remaining.

UP NEXT: The Spartans wrap up SSC play on Saturday, when they travel to Melbourne, Fla., to face Florida Tech at 7 p.m.
