Jess Butler Wins Prelim At NCAA Championships
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - University of Tampa women's track runner Jess Butler finished first in the prelims in the 1,500 meter race at the 2010 NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Complex.
Butler also set a school record while winning the heat. After a time of 4:30.11, the sophomore from Coral Springs, Fla., will now compete in the championship race at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday.
She will be among the top 12 runners from the prelims that earned a spot in the finals. The top eight finishers will earn All-American status. Seeded number two for the finals, Butler is aiming for the top finish in Spartan history as the previous best was seventh.
