Tampa Hosts Ryan McCall Track Meet
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's track teams hosted the Ryan McCall Track Meet, in memory of former UT cross country and track runner.
The Spartan women finished first with 111 points, topping Webber International (100), South Florida (78), Florida Southern (8) and Valdosta State (3).
On the men's side, Webber International took first place with 104 points. Tampa was second as it tallied 45. Following the Spartans were Florida Southern (23), South Florida (5) and Valdosta State (4).
In the Women's 100 Meter Dash, Lindsay Smith was fourth (13.29) as Jocelyn Doina placed sixth (14.90). The Women's 200 Meter Dash also saw Smith finish fourth (27.22) and Doina 12th (31.06).
The Women's 400 Meter Dash featured Natalie Herzberg, who was third with a time of 1:06.60. UT also had four runners in the Women's 800 Meter Run, with Kelly Hagan finishing second (2:23.82), Iolani Scanlan fourth (2:34.83), Christa McLeod fifth (2:38.24) and Abby Patterson seventh (2:43.44).
Tampa runners in the Women's 1,500 Meter Run included Hagan (first, 4:46.15), McLeod (third, 4:55.47), Scanlan (fourth, 5:11.03), Patterson (seventh, 5:23.98) Janna Edwards (10th, 5:32.87) and Danielle Stanley (13th, 6:40.72).
Kaia Hampton was first in the Women's 3,000 Meter Run with a time of 10:33.05, followed by Lindsay Edwards in second at 11:02.24. Courtney Ragan also ran, placing fifth at 11:43.53.
The Women's 400 Meter Hurdles had UT's Kelsey Burnett finish first at 1:11.63 as Tampa also received a first-place finish in the Women's 4x100 Relay from Burnett, Doina, Herzberg and Smith (54.72). The Spartans were also second in the Women's 4x400 Relay with Smith, Herzberg, Scanlan and Hagan (4:24.09).
On the men's side, UT began with the Men's 800 Meter Run as Steven Dennig was second (1:55.86), Jacob Bailey third (2:00.40) and Zach McClain seventh (2:06.58). The Men's 1,500 Meter Run included Peter Orgass, who placed fifth with a time of 4:11.44.
In the Men's 5,000 Meter Run, Charles Toledo was first (15:30.83), followed by Chris Rego (third, 15:47.76), Lewis Price (eighth, 15:53.58), Michael Zwijacz (ninth, 15:57.57) and Mike Leone (14th, 16:53.31).
Tampa concluded the evening in the Men's 4x400 Meter Relay with Bailey, Kevin Harley, McLain and Dennig running to a second-place showing after being clocked at 3:33.89.
Tampa returns to action on April 21 at the South Region meet in Davie, Fla.
