Ryan McCall Track Classic a Success for UT
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's track teams hosted the annual Ryan McCall Tampa Track Classic at Pepin Stadium, in honor of its former runner.
The meet began with the women's 4x800 Meter Relay, which was won by the Spartan team of Sarah Waller, Kelly Hagan, Tori Ehrhardt and Vanessa Righeimer with a time of 10.09.39.
Righeimer then won the 1,500 Meter run, leading the way with a time of 4:53.88. In the men's 1,500, freshman Jessie Boria was the top Spartan with a fourth-place finish and time of 4:07.78. Geremy DeWitt also finished in the top-10 with a ninth-place effort of 4:11.85.
In the 400 Meter Dash, UT's Sara Balzer was seventh with a 1:02.57 effort. Brianna Cantave was 10th at 1:07.55.
Hagan also finished first in the 800, running in a time of 2:18.48. Waller was fifth at 2:26.33 while Jessie Luttenschlager was ninth after being clocked at 2:31.00. Freshman Jimmy Wear earned a runner-up performance in the men's 800, finishing in 1:54.77. Boria was fifth at 1:57.49.
Tampa also placed in the 4x100 Meter Relay, finishing fourth in a time of 53.29. The Spartan team included Morgan Renaldo, Balzer, Cantave and Marina Alfonso.
The women's 5,000 included three Spartans in the top-10, headlined by third-place performer Chantalle Blundell. Her time was 18:17.25. Claudia Cancello and Elaina Cancello finished fifth and sixth respectively as the freshman sisters ran in 18:42.48 and 19:01.14.
In the men's 5,000, freshmen Aaron Oldanie and Brendan McGonagle were both in the top-10 at eight and nine respectively. Oldanie finished in 16:28.31 as McGonagle followed at 16:30.58.
Tampa took second and third place in the women's 4x400 Meter Relay. The team of Blundell, C. Cancello, E. Cancello and Righeimer were second at 4:08.77. Third place went to Cantave, Balzer, Waller and Hagan at 4:11.54.
The Spartan men were also second in the 4x400 Relay, which was the final event of the evening. The group of Boria, Marcus Tivis, Matt Hoffman and Wear finished in 3:29.80.
The Spartans will travel to Gainesville on Saturday for the Tom Jones Meet at the University of Florida.
