Spartans Race at Tom Jones Meet
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's track team traveled to the University of Florida for the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational at Percy Beard Track.
In the women's 3,000 Meter Run, Vanessa Righeimer set a new personal record with a third-place finish of 10:06.56. Freshman Claudia Cancello also turned in a top-10 finish with an eighth-place effort of 10:16.02, which was also a personal record. Also running the 3,000 for UT were Elaina Cancello (17th, 10:51.56, PR) and Ronni Mercier (20th, 10:55.93, PR)
Sarah Waller was the lone Spartan to compete in the women's 800 Meter Run, as she was 14th with a time of 2:20.60.
UT had a pair of runners in the top-10 of the women's 1,500 Meter Run as senior Kelly Hagan was fifth with a new personal record time of 4:39.14. Claudia Cancello was 10th as her time of 4:49.94 won the second heat.
Chantalle Blundell was second in the women's 3,000 Meter Steeplechase, as she logged a time of 11:21.13.
In the men's 800 Meter Run, Jimmy Wear (14th, 1:55.29) and Jessie Boria (17th, 1:57.06) both competed.
UT also had a pair in the men's 1,500 Meter Run in Matt Hoffman (17th, 4:09.98) and Geremy DeWitt (20th, 4:11.90). DeWitt was also 10th in the 3,000 Meter Run with a time of 9:01.00. In the men's 3,000 Meter Steeplechase, Mike Zwijacz had a personal best effort of 9:48.96 in a second-place effort.
Tampa will travel to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational on May 16-17.
