Spartans Take 17th Spot in National Rankings
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Following an impressive first-place performance at the 44-team Disney Classic, The University of Tampa women's cross country team has moved up to 17th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Rankings.
After previously being the 21st ranked team, the Spartans have assumed the same spot they had three weeks ago. This also marks the highest ranking of the season for UT.
Through four races, the Spartans have a pair of first place finishes to go with two second place races. After placing second at the Gator Invite to open the season, UT won the Early Bird Classic before a runner-up finish at the FSU Invite. The Spartans are coming off a first-place race at the Disney Classic. Both second place finishes came to Division I teams in FSU and the University of Florida.
Among the noteworthy NCAA Division I teams Tampa has outperformed this season are South Florida Central Florida, North Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida State (at Gator Invite), Miami, Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Florida A&M, Florida International, South Carolina, Furman, Creighton, Hofstra and The Citadel.
The Spartans will enjoy a week off before running at the 2007 Sunshine State Conference Championships at Saint Leo on Saturday, October 20.
