Tampa Men and Women Win Early Bird Classic
DOVER, Fla. - The University of Tampa began its cross country season with a pair of titles at the annual Early Bird Classic. The Spartan men won its first Early Bird Classic as the women captured the program's third consecutive title.
Tony Nicolosi won the men's race, finishing with a time of 22:22. The senior was followed by sophomore Charles Toledo, who was in the top-10 with an eighth-place showing. Bryan Garcia and Kevin Lane finished 12th and 13th respectively as Greg Moore was 16th to conclude the Spartan lineup.
Lewis Price (18), Tory Webb (20), Michael Zwijacz (30), Jeremy Lautzenheiser (31), Zach Stackhouse (32), Mike Leone (33), Ben Hilton (34), Kevin Harley (45), Jacob Bailey (55), Sage Jacobs (58), Kyle Taylor (63) and Jesse Appelbaum (68) also participated for Tampa.
UT's women won with a total of 34 points, defeating Florida Tech (78) and Embry-Riddle (87). Heather Nicolosi followed her brother's footsteps as the first Spartan to cross the finish line and came in third on the women's side with a time of 18:38. She was followed by teammate Lindsay Edwards finishing in fifth-place with a time of 19:07. Kaia Hampton trailed the two seniors clinching the number seven rank with a time of 19:13.
Katie O'Brien rounded out the Spartans top ten finishers placing eighth in the race with a mark of 19:25. UT's Channelle Cox was placed as number eleven at 20:18. Other notable Spartans finishes were Kelly Hagen (14th) and Dana Glodek (15th).
The Spartans return to action on Sat., Sept. 11 at the Florida Tech Invite. The race will take place at Wickham Park in Melbourne.
