
Tampa Posts Solid Showing At Lehigh Invitational
LEHIGH, Pa. - The University of Tampa men's and women's cross country teams each finished among the top teams in a crowded field of opponents at the annual Lehigh Invitational. The Spartans women were seventh of 41 teams as its men placed 17th among 40 squads.
Rutgers University captured the team title in the women's race with 118 points to edge Princeton and Loyola. UT earned 278 points as a team to finish ahead of fellow top-1o finishers Kutztown, Stonehill and Monmouth.
Heather Nicolosi finished third in a field of 386 runners. The senior notched a 6K time of 21:53 as she was 50 seconds off the pace of individual champion Elicia Anderson (Millersville). Lindsay Edwards finished 19th with a time of 22:32 as Kaia Hampton was 34th for the Spartans.
Katie O'Brien (103), Chanelle Cox (119), Kelly Hagan (178) and Iolani Scanlon (187) also competed in head coach Jarrett Slaven's lineup.
On the men's side, Princeton won the title and was followed by a top five consisting of Colgate, New Hampshire, Ithaca and Monmouth.
Tony Nicolosi paced the Spartans with a 25th place showing following a time of 26:05 in the 8K. Charles Toledo also finished in the top-50 with a 47th place showing and mark of 26:23. Kevin Lane (129), Tory Webb (152), Lewis Price (158), Bryan Garcia (163) and Michael Zwijacz (224) also ran for UT.
The Spartans are back in action on Friday as it competes in the annual Florida State University Invite in Tallahassee. The race is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
