Spartans Turn in Top-25 Finish at NCAA National Cross Country Championships
JOPLIN, Mo. - The University of Tampa women's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division II National Championships for the 10th consecutive season, finishing 25th overall at the 2012 championships.
Grand Valley State University captured the 2012 national championship, recording 101 total points. The Sunshine State Conference and South Region champion Spartans tallied 559 points in the 6 K run that was hosted by Missouri Southern State University.
Freshman Laura Yarrow was the top Tampa runner, finishing 74rd overall with a time of 21:55.3. South Region champion and Runner of the Year Kelly Hagan was 82nd after being clocked at 22:00.2.
Also running in head coach Jarrett Slaven's lineup were Kaia Hampton (154th, 22:48.3), Danielle Kissel (159th, 22:49.9), Courtney Ragan (193rd, 23:20.0), Iolani Scanlan (209th, 23:42.6) and Christa McLeod (240th, 25:02.0).
Tampa concludes a 2012 campaign where it won five races, including the conference and regionals events. The Spartans also finished in the top-four in eight of nine contests.
