
Spartans Run With Nation’s Top Teams at Louisville Invitational
LOUISVILLE, KY. - The University of Tampa men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Louisville Invitational, with the women finishing ninth and the men 13th.
In the women's 5K, Tampa finished with 229 points. The University of Guelph was the top team with 17 points they also claimed the individual title from Gen Lalonde at 17:13.95.
Chantalle Blundell was UT's fastest runner, placing 33rd with a time of 18:49.17. Claudia Cancello was 48th at 19:11.69. Also running for UT were Kelly Hagan (53rd, 19:15.43), Vanessa Righeimer (65th, 19:22.64), Danielle Kissel (66th, 19:22.74), Ronni Mercier (68th, 19:27.33) and Elaina Cancello (94th, 20:00.86).
Tampa was 13th on the men's side with 320 points. Emmanuel was the non-Division I winner with 62 points while Chafik Oussemgane won with a time of 25:27.05 in the 8K.
Geremy DeWitt was the top runner for Tampa, finishing 51st with a time of 27:01.04. Also running for the Spartans were Matt Hoffman (57th, 27:05.12), Mike Zwijacz (71st, 27:18.29), Lars Benner (72nd, 27:19.23), Steven Dennig (87th, 27:36.33), Cory Munsch (133rd, 28:25.12) and Jessie Boria (137th, 28:31.73).
The Spartans will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., on Friday, to compete at the annual Florida State Invitational against more of the nation's top runner.
