Spartan Women Take First-Place at Valdosta State
VALDOSTA, Ga. - The University of Tampa won its fifth women's race of the 2014 season as the Spartans took the title at the Valdosta State Invitational. The Spartan men were fifth overall.
In the women's 5K, UT was ahead of Flagler, West Florida, Valdosta State and Florida Southern.
Chantalle Blundell was second overall as her time was clocked at 18:10.5. West Florida's Kelly Bahn won at 17:58.8.
Claudia and Elaina Cancello were third and fourth respectively, with times of 18:26.5 and 18:44.4. Danielle Kissel was also in the top-10 with a sixth-place effort of 18:53.0.
Also running for head coach Jarrett Slaven's women were Rachel Higgins (12th, 19:06.5), Aislinn Sroczynski (14th, 19:18.8), Kayla Sullivan (15th, 19:20.0), Marissa Yovetich (23rd, 20:21.6), Ariana Sotorpolis (25th, 20:28.8), Brianna Jackson (26th, 20:32.5) and Aimee Epps (30th, 20:43.8).
Flagler won the men's race, followed by Florida Southern, West Florida, West Florida, Valdosta State and UT.
Geremy DeWitt was seventh in the men's 8K, with a time of 25:52.5. Also racing for UT was Jake Poore (13th, 26:17.9), Matt Hoffman (20th, 26:36.4), Phil Robbins (23rd, 26:45.6), Steven Dennig (25th, 26:48.2), Mitch Arnold (26th, 26:50.4), Joey Maus (31st, 27:06.7), Brendan McGonagle (33rd, 27:08.5) and Drew Carff (35th, 27:19.4).
With the regular season complete, UT will next run at the 2014 Sunshine State Conference Championships, a race that it will host at Sydney Dover Trails on November 8.
