Tampa Women Win Mountain Dew Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's cross country team took home a first-place finish in the non-Division I segment of the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational as the Spartan men finished fourth.
Tampa's women finished with 61 points, topping Saint Leo (76), Embry-Riddle (106) and West Alabama (144) as a total of 21 teams competed in the non-D1 scoring.
Chantelle Blundell led the Spartans as she finished the 5K in 18:15.60 to place fourth overall. Claudia Cancello was 12th (19:21.27) as Elaina Cancello (15th, 19:24.49), Kayla Sullivan (18th, 19:28.93) and Danielle Kissel (21st, 19:29.54) rounded out UT's top five.
The Spartan men were fourth with 134 points, trailing only Alabama-Huntsville (66), West Alabama (76) and Florida Southern (108). A total of 18 men's team ran in the non-D1 scoring event.
Tyler Blackburn led Tampa in the 8K, finishing first among Sunshine State Conference runners with a sixth-place finish of 25:49.89. Included in the UT top-five were also Matt Hoffman (31st, 26:55.25), Jake Poore (38th, 27:06.33), Cory Munsch (42nd, 27:10.86) and Lars Benner (51st, 27:16.95).
The Spartans are back in action on Friday in Lakeland, Fla., at the Pre-Conference race.
