Tampa Sweeps Series With #16 Barry
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team crossed the lone run of the game in the seventh inning to record a 1-0 victory over #16 Barry University. After winning both games of Sunday's doubleheader, the Spartans earned the three-game sweep of the Buccaneers. UT improves to 8-10 on the season and 4-2 in Sunshine State Conference play while Barry falls to 13-8 and 0-3 in the SSC.
Devlin Dougherty stared for Tampa and three six scoreless innings while allowing four hits and striking out two. Freshman Heather Van Landingham pitched a perfect seventh to record the victory and move to 3-4 on the year.
Jessica Keefe got things started in the seventh inning as she recorded a one out single to left field. Katie Davis then executed a sacrifice bunt that moved Keefe to second with the top of the order due up. Michele Horan then hit a two-out double up the middle to score Keefe and give Tampa the 10 win.
The Spartans are back in action again tomorrow as they host Ohio Valley University in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
