Tampa Softball Takes Possession of Top Spot in SSC with Victory
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of Tampa used a 4-1 victory over Lynn University to take sole possession of the top spot in the Sunshine State Conference softball standings. The Spartans, 25-13 overall, now stand at 10-3 in the SSC to go one game ahead of Florida Southern.
A three run second inning was all starting pitcher Devlin Dougherty needed as UT also scored a run in the first to take a commanding 4-0 lead. The Knights added a fourth inning run to get on the board.
Dougherty tossed a complete game, going seven innings while allowing one run on six hits. The Spartan ace also struck out six to move to 12-6 on the season.
Kallan Casey and Jessica Keefe each added a pair of hits as the plate as Casey put the first run on the board with a first inning home run to left field. Krystal Crooks also added an RBI for the Spartans.
The same two teams will square off again tomorrow in a 1 p.m. doubleheader from Boca Raton.
