Spartans Fall to Florida Tech in Series Opener
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team dropped a 5-1 decision to Florida Tech in the opening game of a Sunshine State Conference series. The Spartans fall to 27-14 overall and 12-4 in the SSC with the loss while the Panthers improve to 38-21 and 14-6 in league play.
Florida Tech scored all the runs it needed in the first inning as it tacked on three runs. A run in the bottom of the fourth was all the Spartans could muster as the Panthers added a run in each of the final two innings as insurance.
Kallan Casey had a pair of hits for UT as Devlin Dougherty, Krystal Crooks and Brandi Bliout also recorded a hit. Dougherty got the nod on the mound as she pitched seven innings, yielding 10 hits and three earned runs. She also struck out four on the evening.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow in a 1 p.m. doubleheader from Tampa.
