Weather Fails to Deter Record Day for Henriott, Carrea
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team registered a 2-0 victory over the University of West Florida in the NCAA II South Regional. The longest game in Spartan history also saw a pair of records set by Deanna Henriott and Ashley Carrea. UT is now 33-12 on the year as UWF ends their campaign at 38-20.
Following a pair of lightning and weather related delays of 52 minutes and 3:15, UT set a school record with a six hour, 29 minute affair.
Freshman pitcher Deanna Henriott broke a pair of school records as she registered a complete game shutout for UT. Now 22-8 on the year, she broke the record for single-season victories and strikeouts. In seven innings of work, Henriott allowed just two hits while striking out 12 Argonauts.
Carrea also set a new UT record as she homered in her third consecutive game. The two-run homer in the fifth inning accounted for the lone runs of the game for the Spartans. Entering the tournament with four starts and 11 at bats, the sophomore is leading Tampa with a .667 batting average in NCAA tournament play. She also has a team high six hits, two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI's. Her bat has drove in seven of UT's eight runs through three games.
Ashley Arcuri, Michele Horan, Samantha Becker and Brandi Blout also added hits for the Spartans, with Carrea going 2-3. Browning joined Carrea as UT players to score a run.
Tampa will play again on Saturday at 11 a.m., against the winner of the Alabama-Huntsville versus Rollins College game on Friday night.
