Spartans Salvage Split With #17 Midwestern State
TAMPA, Fla. - After falling 7-0 in game one, The University of Tampa softball team recorded a 5-2 victory over #17 Midwestern State (Tex.) University. The Spartans are now 9-3 on the year while the Mustangs are 7-5.
In game one, it was all Midwestern State as the Mustangs broke a 0-0 tie with a run in the fourth inning. MSU then scored two in the fourth and four in the fifth to put away UT.
The second game saw a reversal in favor of the Spartans as they held a 5-0 lead going into the seventh inning. A three run first was all UT needed as freshman pitcher Deanna Henriott improved her record to 6-1. Henriott went seven innings and struck out 10 Mustangs on the evening.
Michele Horan and Jessica Keefe each had a pair of hits in game two as Ashley Arcuri, Krystal Crooks and Cassie Barnes recorded an RBI apiece.
UT is back in action tomorrow as it travels to the Eckerd Tournament to meet Tarleton State at 4:30 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m., meeting with Florida Tech.
