Win Streak Hits Nine Following Pair of UT Shutouts over Hillsdale
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa's winning streak in softball now stands at nine games following a doubleheader sweep over Hillsdale (Mich.) College by scores of 8-0 and 2-0. UT improves to 22-5 on the year as Hillsdale drops to 2-10.
In game one, the Spartans did not get on the board until the fourth when it pushed across four runs. UT followed up with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to close out the game. Ashley Arcuri and Jessica Tejas each had a pair of hits for UT in the contest.
Deanna Henriott improved her record to 16-3 on the year as she hurled the shutout for Tampa. Henriott allowed just three hits while striking out 10.
The second game was similar as the Spartans scored both of their runs in the third on an Ashley Arcuri RBI and a run scoring double by Krystal Crooks.
Heather VanLandingham started game two, registering the shutout to improve to 6-2 on the year. VanLandingham gacve up just four hits while striking out a season high 13 over seven innings.
The Spartans are back in action in Sunshine State Conference beginning on Thursday as it travels to Fort Lauderdale to play Nova Southeastern University. The three-game set is slated to begin with a single game on Thursday at 7 p.m.
