Tampa Softball Earns Top NCAA Statistical Ranking in Five Categories
INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA announced its Division II softball final statistical ranking for the 2012, with Sunshine State Conference champion University of Tampa receiving five honors.
After finishing the 2012 season with a 37-8 overall record, UT claimed the top honor as a team in two categories. The Spartans led the nation in earned run average (ERA) and fielding percentage at .820 and .980 respectively.
Additionally, sophomore pitcher Kayla Cox led the nation in three pitching categories. In her first year as a Spartan, Cox was the top player in ERA (0.34), strikeouts per seven innings (12.0) and hits allowed per seven innings (2.36).
As a team, Tampa also ranked nationally in win-loss percentage (8th, .822) and triples per game (14th, 0.36).
Fellow pitcher Deanna Henriott was ranked in four categories, including ERA (9th, 1.13), strikeouts per seven innings (2nd, 11.2), victories (43rd, 21) and hits allowed per seven innings (2nd, 3.57).
Senior Susan Jallo also ranked in a pair of categories, triples (25th, 5) and triples per game (24th, 0.11).
