Spartans Set to Welcome Fort Hays State For Doubleheader
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 7 University of Tampa softball team is set to take on Fort Hays State University in a double-header on Wednesday at Vince Naimoli Field.
The doubleheader will commence at 1 p.m. with the second game to follow. UT enters the matchup with a record of 13-3, while Fort Hays State sports a 7-1 mark.
Kayla Cox hurled her fourth no-hitter of the season Friday against Florida Tech. The junior surrendered her first earned of the year on Saturday. The impressive streak of 71.0 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run ranks second in Spartan history, behind her previous record of 83.2 innings. The Spartans went 2-1 in their home opening series against the Panthers.
Fort Hays is coming off a 5-1 weekend in the Bentonville (Ark.) Tournament. The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season Sunday against Illinois-Springfield. Danie Brinkmann leads the team with an impressive .609 batting average and seven RBI. Maddie Holub enters the matchup sporting a 0.00 ERA with a perfect 3-0 record and 43 strikeouts.
Wednesday's matchup will mark the first meeting between the two NCAA Division II opponents.
