No. 13 Tampa Set for Weekend Series Against Florida Southern
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 13 University of Tampa (19-8, 7-5 SSC) softball team is set to take on Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Southern College (12-18, 4-5 SSC) for a weekend series. This will be the first time the two teams face each other this season.
The first game of the series is set for 6 p.m., on Thursday evening at Naimoli Family Field, with a double-header starting at 3 p.m., on Friday.
The all-time record for the Spartans against the Moccasins is 26-51. They last met in the 2012 season, and the Spartans swept the three-game series in Lakeland, Fla.
Tampa has been boosted by stellar pitching performances by both
Kayla Cox and Julia Morrow. Cox is now 14-4 on the year with a 0.55
ERA and 215 strikeouts in 127.1 innings. Morrow enters the series
5-4 on the season with a 2.36 ERA.
The offense is led by Kayleen Boatwright with a team-leading 31
hits, 16 runs, and a .341 batting average. Megan Burke and Stacy
Piagno have also contributed for the Spartans. Burke is hitting
.325 with three homeruns, while Piagno has a team-high 19 RBI.
Florida Southern enters the matchup led by Dayna Hunn and Chelsea Oglevie. Hunn is batting a team-leading .290 with 29 hits and 15 RBI. Oglevie enters the series with 61 strikeouts and a 1.72 ERA in 110.0 innings.
