Kayla Cox Earns Fifth SSC Pitcher of Week Award
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Tampa's Kayla Cox is the recipient of the final Sunshine State Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week award, presented by VALIC. Cox has now picked up the honor five times this season.
Cox, a junior from Riverview, Fla., went 2-0 with a save in the No. 12 Spartans' SSC series sweep at Lynn. Working 15.2 innings, she allowed just two hits and two walks with 27 strikeouts. Both of her wins were complete-game shutouts.
In a 5-0 victory in the series opener, Cox tossed a no hitter. She permitted one walk and struck out 12 in the contest. In a 7-0 shutout in the second game, she allowed one hit and one walk with 14 strikeouts.
Cox came on in relief in a 5-1 win in the series finale, allowing one hit with no walks and one strikeout over 1.2 innings.
