Kayla Cox Honored as First-Team All-Region Performer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has officially announced the 2013 NFCA Division II All-Region teams. University of Tampa pitcher Kayla Cox was a first-team selection on the South Region team.
This year's squads are comprised of over 200 players from across eight NFCA regions with first and second teams selected for each region.
Cox earns the honor for the second straight season as the junior right-hander is enjoying a season where she has a 23-4 overall record and national-leading 0.45 ERA. In 185.1 innings, she has 293 strikeouts and has notched seven no-hitters in 2013.
Top-ranked Indianapolis led the way with an impressive seven total nods, all chosen to the first team, with six squads, No. 14 Alabama-Huntsville, No. 4 Armstrong, No. 8 California (Pa.), No. 5 Humboldt State, Rollins and No. 6 Texas Woman's, closely behind with five selections each. Midwestern State trailed only UIndy in first-team nods by reaping four as part of the South Central Region.
NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions selected this year's All-Region teams and all honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three NFCA Division II All-American squads to be announced next week.
