No. 13 Tampa Set for Busy Weekend of Softball
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 13 University of Tampa (10-3, 4-2 SSC) softball team is set to welcome a pair of opponents to town starting with a doubleheader on Thursday against Dominican College (N.Y.) at 6 p.m.
The Spartans then host the Tars of Rollins College for a three-game Sunshine State Conference series starting Saturday at 7 p.m., and ending Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Tampa is coming off a weekend sweep of Sunshine State Conference rival Saint Leo. Offensively, the Spartans are led by Meagan Burke and Kandi Kuder. The duo sport a team-high 13 hits and five RBI while batting .371 and .325 respectively. Lindsay Dring has also contributed while batting a team-leading .379 with 11 hits and two RBI on the season.
Reigning Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week Julia Morrow hurled 9.0 innings with 14 strikeouts while allowing no earned runs against the Lions. The junior limited the SLU offense to two hits while picking up a complete game victory and her first career save in the SSC series. Her record now stands at 6-1 with a mere 0.18 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work.
Dominican is coming off a 1-3 week at the Dot Richardson Spring Games in Clermont to begin its season. The Chargers will take on the Moccasins of Florida Southern tonight in a doubleheader prior to taking on UT tomorrow. Thursday's matchup will mark the first meeting between the two NCAA Division II opponents.
Rollins (15-5, 3-0 SSC) defeated Saint Ansselm and Post on Monday while competing at the Dot Richardson Spring Games. The Tars will take on Saginaw Valley State and University of the Sciences this afternoon before the weekend SSC series with the Spartans. Tampa owns a 41-39 all-time record against Rollins as the two SSC opponents met in Winter Park last season with the Spartans taking the series 2-1 over the Tars.
