Dynamic Duo Dominates Tars in a 1-0 Win
TAMPA, Fla.- The No. 13 University of Tampa softball team triumphed over Rollins College by a score of 1-0 on Sunday morning at Naimoli Family Field. The Spartans improve to 13-3, 7-2 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Tars fall to 17-8 with a 3-3 conference standing.
The Kayla Cox-Julia Morrow pitching duo starred the Spartans' defense for the second consecutive day. Cox started in the circle for Tampa hurling 3.0 innings while striking out three and allowing no runs on three hits. Morrow entered the game in relief and tossed 4.0 hitless innings with ten strikeouts. She earned the victory and strengthens her record 8-1 on the season.
The Spartans took an early lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Jenna Halper. Alyssa Colletti came around to score following her one out triple to give Tampa the 1-0 advantage.
Kandi Kuder led all Spartans with two hits in the while Meagan Burke and Lindsay Dring also contributed with a base hit each to give Tampa six in the game.
The Tars sparked their offense early with base hits in each of the premier three innings but were unable to convert with the strong Spartan fielding.
Tampa returns to action on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Adelphi beginning at 6 p.m. at Naimoli Family Field in Tampa, Fla.
