No. 9 Tampa Set to Welcome Embry-Riddle for Doubleheader

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 9 University of Tampa softball team hosts the Eagles of Embry-Riddle University in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Vince Naimoli Family Softball Field.

The doubleheader will commence at 4 p.m., with the second game to follow. UT enters the matchup with a record of 17-4, while Embry-Riddle sports a mark of 8-9.

The Spartans enter tonight's doubleheader after taking two out of three games against Barry University last weekend, keeping them at the top of the Sunshine State Conference standings. Offensively, Meagan Burke and Lindsay Dring are leading the way for the Spartans. Burke sports a team high .367 batting average with three homeruns, 11 RBI, and 22 hits. Dring has followed suit batting .358 with four RBI and 19 hits.

UT's pitching has been stellar with Julia Morrow and Kayla Cox leading the way. Morrow is now 9-1 on the year with a 0.22 ERA. She has amassed 112 strikeouts in 64.0 innings while hurling three shutouts, including a one-hitter against Michigan-Dearborn. Cox has followed suit with a record of 8-3 and a 0.84 ERA. The senior has tossed four shutouts, including a perfect game against Adelphi through 83.2 innings of work while striking out 118.

The Eagles enter the matchup following a doubleheader sweep over Hastings by scores of 9-1 (5 innings) and 3-0. Talia Barraco led Embry-Riddle with three hits and seven RBI in the victories. Sarah Huey has also contributed for the Eagles this season with a .412 batting average and 21 hits, including six RBI.

Wednesday's matchup will mark the first meeting between Tampa and Embry-Riddle.
