Julia Morrow and Meagan Burke Sweep Softball Player of the Week Awards
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Tampa's Julia Morrow and Meagan Burke have been selected Sunshine State Conference Softball Players of the Week presented by VALIC.
Morrow recorded three wins and a save to help lead the No. 10 Spartans to a 5-0 week and a three-game conference series sweep of Florida Southern. She began the week earning her sixth complete-game with a 3-1 victory over Embry-Riddle. The junior struck out 10 batters and allowed just four hits. In game one against Florida Southern, Morrow earned her third save of the season pitching two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. In game two, Morrow threw a complete-game one-hit shutout against the Moccasins. She struck out 12 batters and walked just two in a 2-0 victory. In the final game, Morrow entered the sixth inning with one out and game tied 1-1. She pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, struck out four batters and earned the win. Morrow amassed 30 strikeouts, walked just three batters and held a 0.43 ERA for the week.
Burke led the No. 10 Spartans to a 5-0 week, including a three-game conference series sweep against Florida Southern. Burke finished the week hitting .438 (7-of-16) and slugging .875 with two triples and a home run. She began the week going 2-of-3 at the plate with a triple and an RBI in a 3-1 win over Embry-Riddle. In game one against Florida Southern, Burke hit a game-winning RBI triple in the seventh inning in a 1-0 victory. The junior went 3-for-3 at the plate in game two with a home run and earned a walk.
