Tampa Sweeps Doubleheader Over Dowling
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 22 University of Tampa
(11-5) softball team swept a pair of games over Dowling (3-3) at
Naimoli Family Field on Monday evening.
Julia Morrow started game one for the Spartans and earned her eight
victory of the season. She tossed 7.0 shutout innings with 10
strikeouts while allowing two hits.
Tampa took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single
by Kandi Kuder to plate Alyssa Colletti.
The Spartans extended the advantage to 3-0 in the fourth as Meagan
Burke doubled to start the inning and came around to score on a
throwing error. Lindsay Dring also scored in the inning on a
sacrifice fly by Colletti.
Morrow and the UT defense would limit Dowling to two hits in the
game holding on for the 3-0 victory.
Jennie Sittloh also contributed to the Tampa offense with a base
hit as the Spartans tallied four in the game.
Sittloh started game two for the Spartans and earned her third
victory of the season. She tossed 7.0 innings with five strikeouts
while allowing one run on six hits.
Tampa took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third as Sahrina Cortes
delivered a clutch bases loaded sacrifice fly to plate Kelsey
Humphrey while Taylor Collins came around to score on a wild
pitch.
Dowling answered in the top of the fourth as Adrianna LaPuma
singled home Nicole Parkas to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Spartans held on for the victory and swept both games of the
doubleheader.
