Spartans Split Doubleheader with Tars
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Tampa
(16-8, 4-5 SSC) softball team split a pair of games with No. 15
Rollins College (20-3, 6-3 SSC) at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on
Saturday afternoon.
Julia Morrow started game one for the Spartans and claimed her 13th
win of the season. The senior recorded 12 strikeouts in 7.0 innings
pitched while allowing one unearned run on three hits.
Meagan Burke gave Tampa an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first
as the senior blasted a clutch two out solo homer over the left
field fence.
The Tars evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a
passed ball allowing Rose Stevens to score.
UT claimed the advantage in the top of the seventh taking a 2-1
lead on an obstruction call at home plate following a Jenna Halper
double as Alyssa Colletti scored on the play.
The Tampa defense held off a comeback from Rollins in the bottom of
the inning to take the victory in game one of the doubleheader.
Morrow started game two for the Spartans and was dealt her fourth
loss of the season. She tossed 5.0 innings with seven
strikeouts.
Rollins rallied to take a 4-0 advantage in the bottom of the
second. Starter pitcher Tiffany Osmanski lifted a homerun over the
right center field fence in the inning. The Tars capitalized off a
Spartan error to plate two unearned runs to take the early lead in
the game.
Tampa responded in the top of the third cutting the deficit in
half to 4-2. Bre Setree got the Spartans on the board with an RBI
single to plate Sahrina Cortes. Dring also contributed an RBI
single in the inning as pinch runner Meagan Brislin came around to
score.
The Tars added two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning and
another in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead in the game.
Niki Fogle entered the game in relief and recorded the victory as
the Rollins ace held Tampa scoreless for the remainder of the game
to split the doubleheader.
Setree led the Spartan offense with three hits in the game while
Taylor Szostak also chipped in with two base hits.

Tampa will return to action March 21 for an SSC matchup at home
against Barry University with the game scheduled for 6 p.m. Live
